Holland Speedways’ LAMOT Series Looks to Come
Back Stronger
By John Earl /

The new late models that ran
at the Holland Motorsports Complex last season will back next year.
The series is in year two of its three year opening run but if the series
maintains its growth and competitiveness from last season they could be around
for a long time to come. The series is a cost effective one, which allows owners
to run at the top level of local racing without spending upwards of $50,000. At
a season ending party last week the series administrators showed off the
relatively inexpensive parts and tires that cut the cost of racing.
The season is also considerably shorter than the weekly racing series, only
scheduling about 10-15 events at the speedway. Last season was even shorter due
to many rain-outs and the series only ran six races. The series moves into 2009
looking to double their car count. At the end 2008 the series ran seven cars and
is now in talks to bring in many more. While no increase in cars is official the
track does expect an increase in participants.
Series champion T.J. Johnson will be back in 2009, he racked up more points than
anyone else with only one victory. He was a threat to win each event and looks
to back up his series crown with another. Johnson was the 2005 track champion at
what was then Lancaster Raceway Park.
The series that looks to save competitors money achieved its goal as the
competitors ran the entire season on one set of tires, a special tire designed
to last longer than any other.
The LAMOT division will need more competitors to bring in more fans to really
take off. Last season was a good show but with a larger field they think the
entertainment value is bound to go up.
