LAMOT announces point fund for 2009

LAMOT is pleased to announce a driver point fund of $6,000 following the completion of the 2009 season at Holland Motorsports Complex.

When the LAMOT (Late Model of Tomorrow) division began in the 2008 season, the main goal of the board of directors was to be an independent group in order to have control over competition rules. Soon after LAMOT was established, it was apparent that more freedom meant more responsibility, and thus support in various areas was necessary for the division to thrive.

One area examined was the point fund. Ultimately, this led to declining a point fund structured by NASCAR and creating their own. LAMOT member Jerry Szalanski said, "we feel that each driver who supported us by building and racing in the LAMOT division should be rewarded by receiving a portion of the point fund. It took a lot of courage for these drivers to stand up to the adversity when it was first started."

Taking on the task of seeking sponsorship is challenging for anyone in racing, especially in these tough economic times, but necessary if LAMOT was to grow steadily. Gaining sponsorship proved to be very difficult prior to the first season, which added to the challenges of establishing a brand new division, and there was no point fund at the end of the 2008. Shortly after the inaugural season ended, the LAMOT board and staff added the help of Stephen Kantor, a longtime supporter of local racing who joined on as a sponsor representative for the division. When asked what attracted him to LAMOT, Stephen said, "I wanted to support our local drivers, and joining LAMOT gave me that opportunity. It's a challenging duty to take on, but I've had a great sense of satisfaction in the progress I've been able to contribute to so far." With hard work and dedication, LAMOT was able to attract a generous group of local businesses to assist in building the division’s first point fund. In order to encourage sponsor exposure and weekly racing, the rules state, "...all competitors must display all of the contingency stickers required by LAMOT on both front fenders of their cars as directed by LAMOT throughout the season and must compete in 80% of LAMOT races."

LAMOT would like to thank all of the sponsors; Mighty Taco, Gillogly Chevrolet, Auto Wrench Connection, Dr. Kantor, Piscitello Designs, and Trank Real Estate & Insurance, in addition to the support of Holland Speedway, Howard Boundy, and many more for their support in various ways to help LAMOT achieve this milestone in its brief history.

LAMOT President Gordon Trank said, "I can't begin to explain how much work goes into LAMOT, but I do know it would not be possible for LAMOT to exist and grow without the support of our sponsors and work done by people like Stephen, Paul White, Jerry Szalanski, Nick Crassi, Al Morrison, Mike Piscitello, Scott Jarrell, and the list continues to grow. All of these people have and still do volunteer their time and money for the love of the sport."
