EVANS, SHEPKER, KING, JOHNSON, HOCH TOP HOLLAND 6/13 WIN LIST

Joe Evans of Holland, NY led wire-to-wire to capture the May 30th rain-delayed main for the NASCAR Ragingwolf.com SST Pro Modifieds at the Holland NASCAR Motorsports Complex on Saturday evening, while Justin Shepker of Lawtons, NY went from third to first in a wild final 150 feet to grab the win in the regularly scheduled Pro Modified main.

In other Saturday Holland action, Eldon King III of Freedom, NY and T.J. Johnson of South Wales, NY split the wins in the twin features for the Late Models of Tomorrow, 2008 champ Mark Hoch of West Seneca, NY notched his first Carquest Charger win of the season, and Chad Pusloski of East Aurora, NY earned a first career victory in the Native Pride Pro Four main.   Eric Brown of Holland scored the win in the Thiel Motorsports Hornet race, Kim Marzec of South Wales, NY continued her 2009 unbeaten streak in the Thiel Motorsports Queen Bee dash, and Jason Adams of East Aurora, NY copped his second M&M U-Pull-It Figure 8 car win of the year.

Joe Evans took full advantage of the pole position in the 30 lap rain delayed Pro Modified main to establish a large lead in his Emerling Dealerships/Price Trucking Troyer chassis; that lead disappeared on lap 11 for the only yellow flag of the event, when Tim Welshans and Patrick Emerling made contact racing for second.  Evans, though not able to open up a similar sized lead after the restart, was nevertheless not seriously challenged for the balance of the race, holding a five car length margin of victory over Mike Fiebelkorn, Jr., who just edged Justin Shepker for the runner-up slot.

In the division’s 40-lap regularly scheduled run, Shepker had his Designer Pools Troyer in third at the white flag, just a couple of car lengths behind Fiebelkorn and Emerling, who were racing side-by-side for the lead.   In turn four, with the checkered flag in sight,  the Fiebelkorn mount broke loose on the high side, spinning down and contacting Emerling.  Shepker  weaved to the top side to avoid the sliding duo, and dashed to the line for the win.  Emerling’s sideways mount crossed the line just ahead of a charging Neil Hopkins to claim second.  The race was designated as an SST Sportsman Race of Champions qualifier, so that with this victory, Shepker claims the opportunity for the September special at Oswego.

The May 30th rain-delayed Late Model of Tomorrow feature had a rugged start, as on lap 2,  Dave Whittaker lost the handle of his racer, bounced off of Eldon King III and Nick Crassi and collected the back chute wall hard.   Whittaker’s car was done for the night, but King and Crassi were able to continue.  Mike Ticco and T.J. Johnson took after the lead on the restart, but lap 7 contact between this lead duo brought out the yellow, and put Joe Carbone at the point.  Carbone’s stay up front was short-lived, however, as King, none the worse for the wear after the lap 2 incident, motored by for the lead, then kept a challenging Carbone at bay for the duration of the 20 lap event.  Johnson came back to place third.

In the regularly scheduled 20 lap Late Model of Tomorrow race, Johnson raced his Trank Real Estate Monte Carlo under Ticco for the top spot on lap three, and then held off the challenges of Ticco for the victory in the caution free event.  King edged Carbone by half a car length in a great battle for third.

A caution with two laps remaining proved to be the break Mark Hoch was looking for, as he took advantage of the restart to race his Art Clark Tribute Malibu by Greg Miszczak for the Carquest Charger win, after Miszczak had led the first 28 circuits.  Dave Krawczyk made a steady run through the field to claim third.  The race was marred by a major five car wreck on lap 6, during which Jerry Kosmowski slammed the back chute wall hard – Jerry was uninjured, although his Olds suffered significant damage.

After a decade of racing, Chad Pusloski finally paid his first visit to victory lane, dominating the Native Pride Pro Four main.  Pusloski pushed his Slippy’s Collision/TW Signs Nissan to the lead at the opening green and ran away for the win in the caution-free 15 lap event.  Josh Hathaway survived an intense four car battle for second, claiming the spot just ahead of Jason Eck.

Though he has a new race car waiting in the wings, Eric Brown brought out the beaten-and-battered “old faithful,” and the car proved its worth, as Brown led all 30 laps in the Thiel Motorsports 4-cylinder Hornet main.  Kim Marzec had an impressive run to place second, while Jeff Szafraniec came from deep in the field to claim third.

Earlier, Kim Marzec had to fend off a persistent Samantha Lutz to earn her third straight Thiel Motorsports Queen Bees win behind the wheel of her Marzec Contruction/Nickel City Shirt Co. Dodge Neon.  Sylvia Miszczak, who led the first three circuits of the 12 lap event, placed third.

Jason Adams pushed his “Grandma’s Special” into the lead at the opening green of the 12 lap M&M U-Pull-It Figure 8 car main and led to the checkers in the caution-free race.  Mike Eckam took second, with Eric Brown placing third in his first foray into Figure 8 racing.

Area military veterans took to the oval in Speedway provided 4-cylinder racers, and Navy vet Bobby Thomas, the 1968 Holland Amateur champ, showed he hadn’t forgotten the quick way around the track, holding off the challenges of Jim Suttell for the win in the 6 lap finale.
